Series of "Pulsar"

In this work I photographed my surroundings where I usually pass by without any thoughts; areas with no particular characteristics. The reason I chose the areas that has no special meaning to me is because I believe the meaning of photography is in defining the "light" and "shadow." These two elements give life to everything in life, no matter who we are or where we are. I want to convey the message that these two essential elements are what make a photograph "photograph," and they exist in every moment of our lives. By capturing the outside world on film, the ordinary life becomes something extraordinary, thus giving us a chance to find the line between fantasy and reality. I concentrated on retaining the natural aspect of light and shadow, so I decided not to use any artificial lights and not creating artificial shadows.

Series of "Primal Mountain"

One day, one of my good friends sent me a postcard with a photo of beautiful mountains. It was so picturesque that more I looked at the photo more it started to look unreal, to the point that my brain started to register it as a two-dimensional drawing.

The idea of a photograph, which is meant to capture the 3D aspects of the world, is perceived as something two-dimensional interested me. After many trials and errors, I succeeded in capturing the spirit of a mountain using just a single piece of silver paper.

The series “Primal Mountains” is actually not about the mountains at all. My focus is on things beyond what eyes can see, but what the heart feels when looking at those photographs. Much like the philosophy of traditional ink wash paintings of East Asia (or Sumi-e), this series is created to convey the soul of a mountain and its surroundings with as little elements as possible.
