Artist Statement
I generally work on long term personal projects, which I then present through exhibitions and publications.
The pictures here are from my two main projects:
Spirits of the River—which will be published in early 2013—explores the estranged relationship of the Cypriot landscape and rainwater. Cyprus has a history of severe (even decade long) droughts. 2012 was the rainiest year in over a century. In response to the temporary transformation of the rural landscape, I built myself some pinhole cameras and went out to capture the visit of the ancient Spirits of the Rivers.
Nicosia in Dark and White—published in 2010 and named Finalist for Best Photography Book by Pictures of the Year International (POYi)—deals with the aftermath of the 1974 Turkish invasion and subsequent continuing occupation of northern Cyprus as it is reflected in the interiors of the numerous abandoned buildings of the old city of Nicosia, near the dividing Green Line.
