Artist Statement
Tereza Zelenkova (b. 1985, Czech Republic) is an artist who works predominantly with black and white photography, creating series based on ephemeral and poetic relationships between the individual images. Her work often enquires into the possibility of myth within the rationally structured modern world.
The photographic medium with all its technical specificities, its affinity with darkness and co-existence in both the negative and positive spaces, its contradictions such as the one that photographs are linked to both death and immortality, its questionable relationship with objective representation, and above all its beauty that stems from the simplicity of image taking, lie at the core of her artistic practice. In her work, she often blends facts and fiction effortlessly, scrutinizing limits of photographic representation and the ways in which it can eloquently portray a subjective vision of the world without submitting viewer to one circumscribed reading of the work.
