Sandy owens'
passion is to capture the essence of the American West whether the subject matter involves cowboys, historical buildings, sprawling landscapes, vast skies, the grandeur of Yellowstone or tenacious herding dogs. Living in Bozeman, Montana, Sandy has immersed himself artistically in the scope and beauty of this region.
In September 2008 he presented the show, Inside the Fly Box at Tierra Montana Gallery in Livingston, MT. The show consisted of 20 fine art prints the gallery owner selected from his many images taken inside fly boxes. In June 2006, Sandy held another successful one man show, Ranch Dogs: Partners in the Land featuring the working dogs of the American West.
Sandy has received numerous awards for his images and his photographs have been selected for several juried exhibitions. Many of his photographs have been published in Montana Pioneer, Explore, Tributary, Range Magazine, Big Sky Journal and he has a photo essay pending publication in Western Horseman. He was also invited to showcase some of his ranch dog pictures at the Western web site, www.cowboyswest.com/horses.html.
Recently, one of Sandy's herding dog photographs was selected for use in the professional photographer's magazine, PDN, as Photo of the Day. In addition, a herding dog picture has been selected for a portrait exhibition at the Rayko Gallery in San Francisco, CA.
