Rainer Hosch was born in Vienna, Austria. His father, Heinz, was a renowned photojournalist who gave his son his first camera on his 8th birthday. The younger Hosch developed a strong interest in photography and, by high school he decided to turn his passion into a profession, studying his craft at the Graphic Institute in Vienna and UCLA.
Now based in Los Angeles, Hosch shoots for magazines such as GQ, Interview, Wired, LA Weekly, Esquire, i-D, Flair, Muse, Men’s Fitness and Details.
His ability to catch both celebrities and unknown subjects in a charismatic and characteristic light has also secured him advertising assignments for Microsoft, Nike, Nespresso, HP, Pravda and Xbox. Best-known for his distinctive frame-filling B+W portraits, Hosch’s color repertoire expands his appeal, which branches into reportage as well as environmental/architecture and still life. His range is neatly typified by his series of fine artists in their own studios ~ an ongoing personal project.
