Artist Statement
With digital photomontage, documentary photography, and time-lapse video, I attempt to create a journey through India by merging images ancient and modern, mythical and real. The juxtaposition of popular advertising, religious imagery, and classical Indian art with contemporary scenes references contemporary clashes of values and cultures that are occurring on the subcontinent, and in my own person. The complex history of these images signifies the emergence of my own identity, which has been a slow process of assimilating influences from both Eastern and Western cultures.
