Introduction
My current work is a photographic investigation into the effects of Climate Change on the fragile coastlines of the British Isles. The images are poetic, purposefully meditative and deal with themes of fragility and impermanence, suggesting the sense of loss, frailty and change that envelop these landscapes. With this set of images I've been trying to move away from traditional documentary/photojournalistic narrative structures and develop a more suggestive, and visual way of organising sequences that create relationships between different forms and landscapes.
With this set I'm particularly interested in the skeins of geese, which are the formations in which the birds fly. As they fly these skeins change shape constantly, breaking apart and reforming, mimicking the shapes of the waves. They remind me of landscapes, particularly of fading vistas of mountains. The disintegration of these 'landscape skeins' serves as a metaphor for me for the landscape beneath them, which is gradually being reclaimed by the North Sea.
