Artist Statement
I am motivated to illustrate the dignity of ordinary people and the beauty in the simplicity of their lives; but I also take great satisfaction in finding the dynamic geometry and design composition of a scene.
Mario DiGirolamo is a native of Rome, Italy. For the past 50 years, he has lived in the USA, pursuing a career as a physician and scientist. In his younger days in Italy, and later in frequent trips back to his native land, he persistently collected images of people and places that sparked his imagination.
Since 1994, Mario’s photographic work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. He has received the Francis Wu Award for Creative Photographer of the Year 5 years in a row and was represented by the Fay Gold Gallery in Atlanta. His work has been shown numerous times at the AIPAD art fair in New York and was published in LensWork in 2004. His work is in several public and private collections. Mario has published a book of his photographs entitled Sole e Ombra/Sun and Shadow and is currently working on a new book of black and white images.
