Artist Statement
Arising from questions around visual perception and its role in how we make meaning of memory and experience, my photography explores ways to create abstract landscapes using camera and film, without software manipulation. These photographs are both a poetic documentation of my experience and are new landscapes that elicit introspection, tranquility and mystery in the viewer.
Process Statement
Starting from the origin of the term photography, the Greek "photo" light and "graph" drawing I approach the medium as a method of capturing light and my work is primarily done “in-camera” preferring medium format and 4x5" film and the use of non-traditional photographic processes. My creative process combines the mechanics of photography and certain aesthetics historically associated with painting to create abstract compositions that evoke contemplative experiences.
