Artist Statement
Jakob Hunosøe employs the photograph as an instrument uncovering new meanings in our immediate surroundings. Using simple artifices, he adds a poetic and humorous dimension to our everyday surrounding. Rather than objectively exposing the surroundings, Hunosøe uses the photograph as a means of rewriting reality.
Process Statement
Hunosøe’s artistic vision endows the familiar objects with a tinge of surrealism. In his most recent works he focuses on the inherent potential and qualities of the objects; earplugs are reflected in a tabletop, a yellow cup cracks, a pair of scissors becomes multicoloured. At first sight everything seems normal; on closer inspection, though, we realize that the earplugs are not reflected, but lie end to end, and that the cup is not broken, as the cracks are made of hair.
Jakob Hunosøe lives and works in Copenhagen. He graduated from Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. Jakob has exhibited throughout Danish galleries and museums and at several artfairs in Europe. In 2009 he participated in Plat(t)form 09 at Fotomuseum Winterthur in Schwitzerland. In 2007 he released the book Episode, which was rewarded Best Books of 2007 and was exhibited at The Danish Museum of Art & Design and at several book fairs in Europe. Jakob is represented by Peter Lav Gallery in Denmark where he has shown five major solo shows: Out of the Ordinary (2006), Full Moon Mirror (2007), On Things Ordinary (2010), Out of Order (2012) and On a Clear Day (2013). In 2012 and 2013 he released the books Out of Order and Keld Helmer-Petersen & Jakob Hunosøe. He is included in several major art collections, amongst others The National Museum of Photography in Denmark.
