Artist Statement
Through my photographs I explore the aura of the built environment and the endlessly changing relationships between architecture and the space around it. In my 'World's Fair Project,' I have been photographing the remaining sites and structures of world's fairs internationally. Other work includes a series exploring the waterfront neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn, and 'Structure Americana,' including houses, banks, and other vernacular American architecture.
Process Statement
I photograph with a large-format 4x5 view camera. After processing the film I scan the negatives on an Imacon scanner (or get drum scans made). I then spend an average of 5-6 hours per image working in Photoshop, first on retouching, then on perfecting the color and mood of the piece. The final print is a digital chromogenic print, typically exhibited at around 30"x36", framed simply.
