Artist Statement
"My Big Family"(2010-present) is a long-term and ongoing project that I started in the summer of 2010. More than just a portrait of my own big family, the project's purpose is to examine the gradual disappearance of the traditional large families in contemporary Chinese society since the inception of the One-Child Policy in 1978. During six months traveling in China, I visited over forty members of my extended family and documented their lives via the media of photography, video and text.
