Artist Statement
Henk Wildschut (Harderwijk, The Netherlands, 1967) studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. His photographs were exhibited in Amsterdam, The Hague, Lagos( Nigeria), Beijing, Shanghai and Sydney, among other places. He does commissioned work for different Dutch and international magazines and papers and works for several design and communication agencies, but his self-initiated long-term projects are more characteristic of Wildschut as a photographer.
The course of time Wildschut considers fascinating, as it contributes to the intensity of the objects of photography. Taking pictures of the same object over the course of several years, enables him to show the development of a situation, but sometimes also the stagnation, the one being as valuable as the other. Shelters, that he started in 2005, is one of these self-initiated projects. In 2010 he published the book Shelter. For this book he received several prizes. The Kees Scherer prize for the best Dutch photo book over the years 2009 and 2010 and the Dutch dock AWARD 2010.
