Introduction
This portfolio was the result of a chance encounter with a Pentecostal street service.
Puerto Ricans are predominant in the audience, for this group was very instrumental in the growth of this religion. Puerto Ricans migrated to Hawaii starting in 1902, most never returned to Puerto Rico. The Pentecostal churches grew with their membership, as well as in the mainland.
The street services are common in places like East New York, in Brooklyn - a "low income" area essentially - in the outskirts of Brooklyn.
They include emotional testimonies, live music and conversions. But primarily they provide solace and a sense of community
to its congregations.
