Artist Statement
Femke Dekkers markes out sections of space using the camera. Within these markings she tentatively creates compositions that produce a frontal and balanced image. As a result of her choice for analogue photography she works towards the sparse moments of the “click”. Sometimes she seems to be painting more than taking photographs, with the space in front of the lens as her canvas.
She tries to make the tension tangible between her desire for the ideal and her inability to achieve it. It is this impossibility that lies at the foundation of her work: the tragedy of striving, which always results in the not quite perfect.
