Introduction
"The Travelers, 2003-2004" is a series of thirty-one photographic portraits of the dead. Each image is a chromogenic color print, 30 x 38 inches (76 x 97 cm), printed in an edition of 6. The works were photographed in Harlem, New York using an 8 x 10 inch Deardorff view camera, and first shown at the Edwynn Houk gallery, New York in June 2005.
"They all came from different places and they all made this journey from the South to Harlem, where they had a greater chance to be who they wanted to be. The story I was trying to tell is that this is the way they were. This was the 20th century journey."
