Artist Statement
My fine art photographs and interdisciplinary projects are compelled by the connections, conflicts, and intersections of the natural and cultural worlds. The works are project based and often weave together stylistic observation with personal voice. Experiencing place though experiential participation is an important conceptual component to the work.
For example, Confluences is an interdisciplinary, lens-based project focused on the Columbia River drainage basin. Spanning four states and two countries, the series examines interconnections of geography through the framework of bioregionalism. The impetus for the project stems from a desire to learn and develop a sense of place through both research and direct experience. My main concern is in expressing how interconnected everything is; that what we do in our own back yard, has a broader affect on the larger world we live in.
Process Statement
All images in Confluences are medium format captures. The print sizes are 16x20 (edition of 10) and 24x30, Edition of 3.
