3-D FAMILY GHOST STORIES
by
CLAUDIA KUNIN
When my father passed away in May of 2007, I inherited the family photographs and documents. I discovered pieces of an enigmatic past that existed before I was born. I recreated new images by montaging all these photographs together with imagery of my own, then manually converting them to 3-D. Though they can be seen with out the red/cyan glasses, the adding of the third dimension takes the viewer into a surreal space where dreams and memory abide.
Process Statement
The original montaged image is for the right eye. I then make the image a second time for the left eye, in which I shift things either to the right or the left to make them appear to be in front or behind. I then remove all the red from the right eye image, and all the green and blue from the left eye image and paste the two images together. This then creates what is called an "anaglyph", which is a picture that is 3D when viewed with red/cyan glasses.
