Artist Statement
The content of my photographic work is based on my middle class American upbringing, an overarching interest in culture, our relationship to place, and the complex interaction between humans, time, and the contemporary landscape. I believe engaging with the everyday world through making direct yet sensitive images can help us to better understand the human condition.
In using the real world (i.e. Life-As-It-Is) as my studio, I place a premium on thoughtful, intelligent observation and acute perception in the making and editing of photographs. Aware of the camera’s ability to transform life’s commonplace and over-looked irrelevancies, I make post-documentary images that are at best keen observations begging for consideration as opposed to calls for action.
Process Statement
I work primarily with large and medium format film cameras, color negative film, and archival inkjet printing or digital c-printing. I produce my current work within the convention of finely crafted photographic prints, professionally presented for the gallery wall.
