Artist Statement
I believe in found beauty. I pursue the moment's grandeur through simplicity of design and I wait for the moment of rest and concentration.
I photograph by intuition when I am gripped by feeling. I carefully hold intersecting lines and shapes in tension and those few people present in my landscapes are kept distant and unaware.
The story of my work is my life in the West. My mother's family came to Washington State in 1856, along the Oregon Trail from Terre Haute Indiana. My father's family came from Croatia in the late 1880's.

Process Statement
I shoot in film, mostly large format from Kodak, Ilford, and Fuji. I process by hand, tone, wash, and air-dry my black and white prints according to strict archival guidelines.
Along with film, I capture color using a Leica M system, the finest digital camera system in the world. My exhibition color photographs are printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta paper using pigment inks. Very large black and white and color prints are printed to Fine Art Rag paper.
