Artist Statement
Some of my work from over 40 years is represented on my website. It ranges from black and white Nudes, from the 1960's and 70's to my most recent work in the southwest which is digital: printed on canvas and painted with oils. My work has dealt with many subjects over the years as my life continues to evolve. I was a photography professor for over 30 years and am now doing my own work full time in Santa Fe, NM Process Statement
I photographed and printed in black and white primarily until 1979 when I began working with Polaroid materials. I used the SX-70; 8X10, 20X24 cameras as well as the 40X80 room camera at the MFA in Boston. Cameras I have used are 35mm; 4X5, 8X10, Widelux, Medium Format, half frame and digital. Work from about 1986 to the present involves either black and white prints that have been painted with enamel and oil paints or digital on canvas painted with oils. The process follows where ever my ideas lead. I am a dinosaur who still believes in a balance of form and content.

 

 

Chris Enos received her MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute
in 1970 and her BA in sculpture from San Francisco State University in 1969.
Her work is included in museums, corporate and private collections including the
Getty Museum; Denver Art Museum, George Eastman House, Los Angeles County
Museum of Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Fogg Museum at Harvard University,
Yale University Art Galleries, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Addison Gallery of
American Art and Smith College Museum.
Grants and awards include a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Photographic
Resource Center, Boston University; National Endowment for the Arts Photography
Fellowship, Massachusetts Council on the Arts Fellowship and the Englehard Award
from the ICA in Boston.
She founded the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University in 1976 and
taught photography for 30 years. She is Professor Emeritus from the University of
New Hampshire and also taught at Smith College; UCLA, Hampshire College,
International Center of Photography, NYC and Rhode Island School of Art.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and recently the
Museum Press of New Mexico Press published her book “285 Broken Dreams”. A
