Artist Statement
Being an extremely curious and explorative person, the night becomes my photographic playground. I become a discoverer of tangential spaces and also of seemingly ancient artifacts of lost worlds.
Within the confines of the image, the observer becomes both servant and master; contributing to meaning and narrative. By using the photograph as an extension of my imagination, I provide a framework in which the viewer can operate, supplying his or her own particular narrative to my suggestive imagery.
Process Statement
Each image is composed of multiple captures of sections of the scene before me, blended together seamlessly to subtly reconfigure the space depicted. Projecting from my childlike imagination, I shift perspective, mutate color, lighting and focus to transcend a literal interpretation, thus provoking a deeper examination of the spaces depicted. Printed large (generally around 40" by 60"), the spaces become almost inhabitable, occupying a large portion of the audience's visual field.
