Artist Statement
I am drawn to the intricacies and wonder of lush and ornate environments. I often focus on land and water, botanicals, figures and animals found near and abroad. Having an appreciation for pictorialism and photography from the turn of the 19th century, I find lith printing an intriguing process to express my vision. The warm tones, hard shadows and soft highlights of lith prints create a timeless atmosphere of delicacy and nostalgia. I shoot with vintage and plastic cameras.
Process Statement
This form of lith printing is not to be mistaken with lith film or lithographic prints from stones. It is an analog printing process in the darkroom. There are too many variables to duplicate an exact print each time. Each print is unique.
Prints are in an edition of 15 and range in sizes from 5 x 5", 10 x 10", 15 x 15"
Ann Pallesen received her BFA from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins in 1993. She has continued her studies through Photo Center NW – where she honed her skills in lith printing by master printers, including Tim Rudman. She has exhibited her work nationally and is included in several private collections. She is based in Seattle, WA.
Ann is the Gallery Director of the Photographic Center NW, a position she has held since 1996. She has created over 200 exhibitions with emerging and renowned artists. She has coordinated dozens of lectures with visiting artists and curators, and regularly appears at portfolio review events around the country. Ann has served as a juror for several exhibitions and competitions outside of Photo Center NW.
