Artist Statement
straight photography with a personal view // long-term photographic documentations, reflection on
social identities within the private and public spheres. My artistic documentary photography develops
in tension between commissioned and independent productions in the contexts of media and art. It is connected to the question of the individuality of a human being. It explores the relationship between the individual presenting his / her personality and the society to which he / she presents it.
Process Statement
My photography primarily intends to translate an individual impulse on life into images.
Working with photography's ability to document, I transform views and impressions
which I perceive into single photographs that aim to reflect on universal human
experiences through a sequenced accumulation. The significance of each image is
the result of a long-term working process.
Andreas Weinand ( b. 1958 in Rheine / Westfalen ) is a photographer based in Berlin, Germany.
He studied photography at the University GHS Essen (Folkwang), graduating in 1990. His photography is primarily engaged in the research of personal identities.
His work has been exhibited extensively including solo exhibitions at Brandts Museet for
Fotokunst ( Odense, Denmark ), Contretype ( Brussels , Belgium ), Gallery 44 ( Toronto,
Canada ) Gallery Fotoimage ( St. Petersburg, Russia ) and Museum für Photographie
( Braunschweig, Germany ).
His work is represented in public collections, including Bauhaus Archiv, Dessau; Brandts
Museet for Fotokunst, Odense; Contretype, Brussels and Museum Folkwang, Essen.
